married Esther M. Anway. They had 3 sons (one died of polio) and one daughter. Guy and Esther made their home in Waterloo where Guy was a paving contractor until his death in Jun 1957. As of Oct 1995, only 2 of Guy's children survive: Gene (age 53) and Bonnie Walker Welsher (age 45) — both of Hampton, I A. Charles Emery was born 26 Oct 1899. He married Irene Strim 5 Oct 1938 in Hampton, IA. He served with the Army during World War II. He was the owner-operator of the Waterloo Salvage Co. for 40 years. He was a member of Becker Chapman Post 138, American Legion. Charles died Dec 1973 and is buried in Fairview Cemetery, Waterloo. Lottie Marie, born 5 Mar 1990, died 23 Apr 1900 of croup. She is buried in Phelps Cemetery, Decorah. Grace Velda born 2 Mar 1901, died 26 Mar 1902 of lung fever. She also is buried in Phelps Cemetery. Georgia Lucille, born 27 Feb 1907, married Joseph Kapoaikana. Georgia died 9 Jun 1926 from burns caused by a gas explosion. She is buried in Hot Springs, AR.

Daniel Walker seemed to be a "jack of all trades". In his life time, he was an inventor, junk dealer, horse trader, deacon, author, grocery store owner and then bought a show wagon containing old guns and relics which he exhibited on the streets of Waterloo, IA.

Daniel Walker died in 1929 after falling 15 feet to the ground while walking in his sleep. Being one of the true pioneers of the state, his stories of the early days caused him to become very well known.

Walker, William and Eliza Ann

William Henry Walker (b. 1828) and his wife, Eliza Ann (b. 1840), were early residents of Moneek, Winneshiek Co., IA. William entered the Civil War 7 Oct 1861 at the age of 32 at McGregor, IA as a private in Co. I, 2nd Regiment, Kansas Volunteer Cavalry. He was killed in action near Waldon, AR 29 Dec 1863, leaving behind his wife and 2 small children - Daniel and Charlotte. Eliza Ann received very little pension, forcing her to send the children to an orphans' home in Cedar Falls. In 1877 she married Arron Kneeskern. They lived in Ossian, IA until his death in 1894. Eliza Ann then moved to Cedar Rapids to live with her daughter. 14 Jan 1914 at the age of 73, she went to live at the Old Soldiers Home in Marshalltown, IA under the records of her first husband, William H. Walker. Eliza Ann died 12 Mar 1915 due to heart failure and is buried in the home’s cemetery in Marshalltown.

Walsh, Keith and Margo (Noecker)

Margo Walsh was born to Milo G. and Ida M. (Ouandahl) Noecker at home in Hackensack, MN, the first of 5 children. Before they left MN a second child was born 3 Dec 1944. Milo was drafted into the army in the summer of 1945 so Ida moved her 2 children to a house they bought in Burr Oak, IA.

Margo started school in 1948 while Ida and Milo were living on Grampa Hugo Noecker's farm in Hesper Twp., Winneshiek Co. They had moved there in the summer of 1947. In the spring of 1949 Milo bought a farm in Canoe Twp. where he moved his growing family. He now had another daughter Suzanne Louise. Besides the excitement of a new home Margo was the proud sister of twins Billie and Bettie. The family was complete. Margo went to a one-room country school, Canoe #6, through 8 grades. She started 9th grade and graduated from Decorah High School in 1961.

After graduation she worked a short time at a factory in Spring Grove, MN. She commuted back and forth with a neighbor Earl Winters. She moved to Decorah in 1962 and worked 2 years at Luther College. Next she worked at Aase Haugen Home until 1967.

Margo married Keith C. Walsh 17 Jun 1967. In the fall of 1967 she began a new job at Deco Products, Decorah and worked there until 1972 when she took a nurses’ aide course at adult education. She has worked as a nurses’ aide at Barthell Eastern Star since 1975.

Keith has worked for Wick’s Construction Company since their marriage. Margo and Keith make their home at 505 Jefferson, Decorah.

Walter, Fredrich and Edith Mae (Bronner)

Fredrich R. Walter was born 8 Feb 1885 to Michael and Emilie (Keipe) Walter in Howard Co., IA, the 15th child of Michael and the 8th child born to Emilie Keipe. The children of Michael and his first wife Emilie Melchert were: Auguste Matilde (1852-1853); Rosine (1854-1854); Emilie (1855-1941) married Jacob Bronner; Johann August (b. 1857); Ferdinand Wilhelm (b. 1858); Henriette Wilhelmene “Minnie" (b. 1860 and m. Fuss); and Caroline (b. 1863). All children of this marriage were born at Moschitz, Posen, West Prussia. Children born to Michael and Emilie (Keipe) Walter were: Gustav Fredrich (b. 1865); Carl Rudolf (b. 1868); Ida Lisette (b. 1870) married a Rosentine; Hulda Emma Bertha (b. 1873) married a Bonner; Alvine Marie (b. 1877) married Darwin Miller: Adolf (b. 1879); Alma married Richard Goldenstern; and Fredrich R. (b. 1885). All children of the 2nd marriage were born in Moschitz, West Prussia except the youngest son Fredrich. Michael, his second wife and children from both families emigrated to this country in 1881 and settled in Albion Twp., Howard Co., IA. Nephews of Michael were already in the Cresco area. The villages of Moschitz and Grabau are located near the Notec River and just west of the city of Wyrzysk in Poland. Emilie Keipe, daughter of Johann Keipe, was born at Grabau.

Fredrich “Fred” Walter attended rural schools in Howard Co. and on 13 Mar 1905 at age 20 he married Edith Mae Bronner. Edith was born 12 Oct 1885 in Howard Co. to Michael and Margaret (Hawk) Bronner. Michael Bronner was born in Engenheim, Alsace, France in 1846 and came to this country in 1865. Margaret Hawk was born in Westmoreland Co., PA 4 Apr 1848 and came to Howard Co. with her parents about 1862. Michael and Margaret were married in 1865 in Howard Co. Edith Mae was the 8th of 9 children born to this couple.
